Senator Richard Colbeck, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, congratulated Hyne Timber for its recognition in two Employer of the Year awards this month.
Senator Colbeck recently visited Hyne's Tuan sawmill, in Queensland, and was impressed by the company's strong recognition of staff and excellent workplace practices.
"The company deserves recognition for its positive attitude towards the continuous development of employees, excellent focus on safety, management of waste and recognition of the environment," he said.
"I congratulate Hyne Timber CEO Jon Kleinschmidt for taking a proactive approach to training and development which has contributed to high retention rates among employees."
Hyne Timber was this month recognised as a finalist in the NSW Government Training Awards' Large Employer of the Year' category and the Queensland Government Training Awards' 'Employer of the Year' category.
Senator Colbeck said the Coalition supported ongoing workplace training and development.
"The Coalition's plans to support school leavers undertake VET training as well as University education will assist companies like Hyne Timber maintain a skilled workforce in the future," he said.
"The forestry industry makes an important contribution to Australia's economy and is a significant provider of employment in regional communities."
"Our forestry policy aims to create a strong and sustainable long-term future for Australia's forestry industry, which will lead to more jobs and investment."
