Chinese tourists travel direct to Gold Coast

30 September, 2015

Senator Richard Colbeck, Minister for Tourism and International Education, today welcomed passengers who arrived on the first direct flight from China to the Gold Coast, describing it as excellent news for the local tourism industry.

"It is a pleasure to welcome the 330 tourists who have travelled direct from Wuhan in central China to the Gold Coast today," Minister Colbeck said.

"Jetstar has commenced a twice-weekly service which will bring in more than 30,000 Chinese tourists each year, opening up the Gold Coast to one of the largest travel markets in the world.

"This will drive tourism into the regions and help the local tourism and hospitality operators take full advantage of the influx of tourists.

"The Gold Coast has long had a reputation as one of Australia's premier tourism destinations and it is great that Chinese tourists can now visit the region directly as a result of this new flight."

This new service is being delivered in a partnership between Jetstar, Dailan Wanda Group, Gold Coast Airport, Queensland Government, and the Gold Coast Council.
