Colbeck congratulates Export Awards winners

27 November 2015

Minister for Tourism and International Education, Richard Colbeck has congratulated all finalists and winners at tonight's 53rd Australian Export Awards ceremony in Melbourne.

Senator Colbeck especially paid tribute to Tasmanian Quality Meats, which won the Regional Exporter Award. The company has grown its export business from scratch to annual sales of more than $37 million in just four years.

"Tasmanian Quality Meats is a great local company from my home state whose success is an example to other regional enterprises that are looking beyond Australia's relatively small domestic market," Senator Colbeck said.

"The Government's signing of Free Trade Agreements with Korea, Japan and China will open up new market opportunities for businesses in Tasmania.

"Australia's exporters are diversifying and their efforts are helping Australia's economy to grow and prosper as we transition out of the mining boom."

Tasmanian Quality Meats' exports fresh and frozen lamb, mutton, veal and offal to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It is planning further export growth in new markets in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Macau and Mexico.

At the ceremony, Senator Colbeck also presented the Business Services Award to Nuix, a NSW-based technology company that solves complex, real-world data challenges such as cybersecurity incident response, insider threats, and litigation, regulation, privacy and risk management.

"I congratulate Nuix on their hard work that has led to their award tonight. They are taking Australian innovation to the world and with their unique offering to 1,500 customers in over 60 countries, they really deserve this accolade," he said.

Co-presented by Austrade, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and CPA Australia, the Australian Export Awards is now in its 53rd year and one of Australia's most prestigious and longest running business awards programs.
