The Minister for Tourism and International Education and Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment, Senator Richard Colbeck, departs today for Rarotonga, Cook Islands to represent Australia at the Pacific Islands Forum Trade Ministers Meeting.
"I look forward to meeting fellow Trade Ministers and discussing how we can accelerate regional economic development, especially through the promotion of private sector growth," said Senator Colbeck.
The meeting also provides an opportunity to progress negotiations of a key trade agreement for the region - PACER Plus.
"A high-quality agreement will boost foreign investment and trading opportunities for Pacific Island countries, creating jobs and improving living standards over the longer-term," Senator Colbeck said.
While in the Cook Islands, Senator Colbeck will also announce an increase to Australia's contribution to the Pacific Islands Trade & Invest Sydney Office to $2.5 million per annum.
The Office assists Pacific Island businesses promote exports, investment, tourism and the creative arts.
